Mindset Shift #1: Self-Care falls from the sky.
It’s so easy to beat ourselves up for not being as “balanced” or “calm” or “joyful” as we think we should be.
But the truth is self-care isn’t going to fall from the sky.
It’s something you need to have a plan for and consciously commit to.
You are in charge of your self-care. And if you want to make it happen you get to decide. The choice is yours!
Of course, self-care isn’t taught in schools. We’re often left experimenting and struggling to take action on this. Which brings me to...
Mindset Shift #2: Self-care is more than shopping sprees & spa days.
Most of us don’t grow up learning what self-care is or prioritizing our self-care (although wouldn’t it be amazing if they did start teaching this in school?)
So while retail therapy and mani-pedis absolutely have their place in a healthy self-care routine…
Self-care can be so, so much more. And it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money or time.
Mindset Shift #3: Self-care doesn’t take a ton of time.
How many times have these words come out of your mouth?: “I just can’t seem to find the time to take care of myself.”
If so…
Then giving your time to everyone else is also not the answer. But I get it, because I’ve been there too.
When you’re already super busy – the kid pickups, the rushed dinners with your spouse, the days spent “spinning plates” at work – the thought of also finding time for self-care can be seriously overwhelming.
And it doesn’t help that many people have grandiose ideas about what self-care should be.
But the truth is that self-care does not have to be something big for it to make a difference.
